The importance of corporate catering for a healthy nutrition of modern society continues to increase. In addition, the fact that companies can become more attractive for potential employers is shifting into focus.
Many changes are happening in the corporate catering industry. While the key players of the price-sensitive health sector are dealing with existential questions, food consumption at work experiences a change in value. “Companies and guests are requesting new and fresh concepts”, says Burkart Schmid, editor-in-chief at the trade magazine gv-praxis. “They expect an atmosphere of comfort, pre-ordering, the availability of snacks and many other added values”.
Since the number of “food illiterates” increases, the political importance of corporate caterers as educators for a healthy diet is going to increase as well. According to Schmid, the industry must act as a pioneer and role model regarding sustainability and the usage of organic food, especially for guests with little knowledge of healthy diets and nutrition. Rainer Roehl, a well known German industry expert and consultant, is convinced that digitalization and the demand for plant based products will change the image of catering companies in the future. He also mentions that the corporate catering industry is suffering from a shortage of skilled employees: “Companies must be willing to invest into young talents with fresh ideas now.”
